EDIT: The current color scheme didn't make this look like an obvious link so click here for a the wiki's comprehensive guide to zapping.

The punch line is the wand can be used to turn some objects into other objects. Not all objects are zappable. Objects form "zap groups" ... if Object A is in a zap group with Object B and Object C, then if you zap Object A you will get either a new Object B or a new Object C.

The other important bit is "wand blowup". You can use your wand once per day safely. If you use it more than once per day, it can overheat and be destroyed. If you lose a wand this way, you need to wait three days before you're able to get a new one back at the Dungeon of Doom, the same way you got this wand.

A strategy most newer players may not know about: If you already have a wand and need bang potions for the Lair's gate (one is always required for a gate), just find the adventure again where you got the mimic, pay 5k to buy another mimic, use it to get 10-15 random bang potions and one random Dungeon of Doom ring.

To save yourself more turns relating to the Sorceress' Lair, just grab two of the three hero keys (Boris, Jarlsberg, and Sneaky Pete) from the Daily Dungeon and use both of them in the Lair. Once you've used those two, zap either one to get the key you didn't pick up.

A bit of wand trivia: Be aware that the wand can zap Hobopolis, duct tape, and cursed zombie pirate outfit pieces to get you what's needed, but can't speed up the clingfilm outfit the same way, unfortunately.

This is almost never worth it. If you need more ! potions you can always just farm the DoD (which you'd have to do anyway for at least a little while before getting back to Izchak's) or even buy them at the mall (You get to pick which potions you get that way, and 15 potions at the mall costs much less than 5000 meat) if you aren't in HC/Ronin. Save your mimics for when you need wands (and be sure to correctly count the days since your wand blew up, if it's not your first wand!)

Of course it's not worth it if you aren't in ronin/HC, but not everyone knows it exists period. If the RNG has it's cursed eye on you and you aren't getting the right bang potion from the boxes in ronin/HC, at least now they might know that taking the 5k plunge is a possible alternative. Just spreading the info and all... Smile

I'll be honest, I didn't know the mimic would drop !potions if you already had a wand. Since I'm a HC nut, it -might- be worthwhile to roll the dice on the mimic if he happens to come up when I'm farming needed !potions at level 13. I have probably passed on fighting a mimic in such a scenario because hey, I have a wand and need !potions and that just wastes a turn. Well, it doesn't now!

So yeah, it's not optimal. But sometimes you don't need optimal, you just need it now.
